DUTY Visual and User Experience Design
Nowy is an AI-driven trip itinerary planning application that has been available on the App Store for two years.
Despite its comprehensive functionality, Nowy has experienced a modest growth rate in downloads. In contrast, competing apps like Wanderlog and Out of Office have seen significant increases in their user bases.
Redesigned the interface and established a design system to create a clearer and more consistent user interface.
Crafting illustrations to reflect and enhance brand style.
Analyzed user experience research to identify pain points and refined the UX for AI-generated travel itinerary creation.
The lack of a design system for creating interfaces led to inconsistent styles in fonts, icons, and UI components, resulting in poor hierarchy and a suboptimal user experience.
Refined the interfaces using the new design system
Initial Interfaces
Refined Interfaces
Refined the color palette
Initial Color Palette
The Nowy logo featured seven main colors, plus white and black, which made the old interfaces overly colorful.
Refined Color Palette
I adjusted the primary color to ocean blue from the logo for better contrast on the interface, and defined green as the success color and yellow as the warning color to ensure the color system aligns with our brand.
Refined the typography for a clearer and more consistent hierarchy on interfaces
Initial Typography
The Nowy developer team chose Arial as the primary typeface for the interface. However, its limited font weights and conservative style fail to reflect the advanced AI itinerary technology and brand image.
Refined Typography
The Nowy app is developed using iOS tools, which offer limited default font options. I chose SF Pro for its excellent legibility and strong performance on the interface.
Designed a cohesive icon system to strengthen brand identity and improve communication.
Initial Icons
The Nowy app lacked a consistent icon style, making the interface look cluttered and reducing the clarity of the functions.
Refined Icons
To align with Nowy's brand identity, I designed new icons that clearly indicate functionality on the interface, improving usability.
Developed a comprehensive button system to enhance clarity and improve call-to-action effectiveness.
Initial Buttons
The previous interface used inconsistent button colors, with low-contrast text on the buttons. There was also unnecessary text in the call-to-action buttons.
Refined Buttons
Ocean blue was used for primary buttons to emphasize the brand color and create a consistent interface, with a focus on ensuring strong contrast between the text and button colors.
Optimized the design of Cards for a more intuitive and cohesive user interface
Initial News/Updates Cards
Different types of content needed to be displayed on the information cards, but the previous design didn't provide layout variations.
Refined News/Updates Cards
Enhanced the layout of information cards and created variations for displaying content on the cards
Initial Itinerary Cards
The previous itinerary card design provided limited travel information for users. The Public and Personal Display versions only showed the location name, rating stars, and a “Book Now” button.

Refined Itinerary Cards
Enhanced the itinerary card information to provide users with essential travel details while editing or browsing the cards, and used different colors to signify the various days.

Crafting an illustration style for app interfaces and promotional materials
Initially, I used only the Nowy brand colors for the illustration style. However, this resulted in an overly blue interface, which affected readability. To address this, I created a version with black line-work and solid fills, incorporating selective brand colors to accentuate key elements in the illustrations.
